Career Readiness Fellowship 1.0
Career readiness remains a critical need for young Africans seeking to thrive at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and innovation. In response, the Health Intel Trust launched the Career Readiness Fellowship Program, an 8-week virtual initiative designed to equip youths with practical skills, mentorship, and real-world experience to enhance employability and leadership in the realm of health technology.
The fellowship introduced participants to a transformative learning journey, exploring the power of youth-driven innovation in addressing public health challenges across Africa. By combining structured training, mentorship, and collaborative learning, the program empowered fellows to translate ideas into actionable solutions.
The program focused on building competencies in storytelling, digital tools, content creation, networking, professional communication, and design thinking. Participants were also encouraged to engage with platforms such as GitHub and LinkedIn to strengthen their digital presence and career prospects.
The fellowship was divided into two major phases, namely;
Capacity Building & Foundational Skills
The first four weeks focused on intensive training sessions, all delivered virtually. Fellows participated in weekend classes facilitated by experts, covering essential fundamentals. Assignments and reflective tasks were included to ensure practical understanding and application of concepts.
Mentorship & Capstone Project
The second phase emphasized personalized mentorship and project implementation. Fellows were paired with experienced mentors who guided them in refining career pathways and executing innovation-driven or career-focused projects. This phase enabled participants to apply acquired knowledge while receiving expert feedback.
The program structure ensured consistent engagement through:
- Virtual sessions held twice weekly (weekends)
- Weekly assessments to reinforce learning
- Biweekly interactive sessions and screenings
- A capstone project supported by mentorship
The fellowship attracted a diverse cohort of young Africans passionate about healthcare innovation. Participants benefited from peer learning, collaboration, and networking opportunities that extended beyond the duration of the program.
